This is the first book in a new small town romance series featuring wildland firefighters in South Lake Tahoe. It's a grumpy x sunshine relationship between a cynical wildland firefighter and an optimistic Latina wildlife behaviorist. As neighbors there's forced proximity, care/sick scenes, and open door love scenes. It also features a hero that falls first and there's no third act breakup on the way to a happy ending.

This book deals a great deal with the damaging effects of climate change and the raging fires we’re seeing during the summer months, especially on the west coast. If this is a sensitive subject for you, you may want to put this book aside. Besides topic of wildfires there’s also situations of danger such as run-in with wildlife and getting lost. There are also discussions of divorce, poor parental relationships, feelings of disconnection and the depression that follows it. This book also does have some adult language and open door love scenes.
